The Challenge

With the growing number of electric vehicle drivers, Bayview Yards—Ottawa’s leading innovation hub—was seeking a solution to deliver a polished, efficient charging experience for both clients and the public. The existing system presented common infrastructure challenges: a lack of user authentication led to unauthorized usage, limiting access for clients and corporate tenants. There was also a need to adapt the system to a pay-per-use model outside of business hours and on weekends—providing a valuable, affordable charging option for members of the surrounding community. The need was clear: a smarter, more scalable approach was essential to meet growing demand for a customizable, state-of-the-art solution.
The Solution

In April 2025, JPlug partnered with Invest Ottawa to introduce a modernized EV charging system for tenants, clients, and the broader EV community. Leveraging agnostic software compatible with a range of hardware, JPlug delivered a scalable, affordable, and user-focused system. Users can begin charging within seconds by simply scanning a QR code and entering an authentication code—no app download or personal data required. The system is also highly adaptable, with the flexibility to evolve based on user feedback.
“Bayview Yards is grateful for the innovative EV charging software provided by our long-time client and partner, JPlug. Not only do we have the opportunity to support local tech entrepreneurs in Ottawa as they develop their innovations, but we also benefit from an improved on-site EV charging system for our clients and the surrounding community. It’s a win-win. We hope this opportunity to test their technology in real-world applications gives JPlug an edge in a growing and competitive market.” – Kara Eusebio, Director of Bayview Yards Growth and Success
Three new stations—supported by hardware partners FractalEV, Teltonika Energy, and EVduty—have been installed in the paved section of the Bayview Yards parking lot. The updated system offers free charging during business hours for Invest Ottawa clients and tenants, with access managed through a code. After 6:00 PM, the system transitions to a pay-per-use model at $1.50 per hour. Users simply scan a QR code and manage their session through the JPlug website. Charging sessions initiated during the day automatically end at 6:00 PM, giving users the option to begin a new paid session.
Going Forward
This partnership reflects JPlug’s commitment to building smart, connected EV infrastructure and supports Invest Ottawa’s broader efforts to foster a more sustainable and accessible innovation ecosystem in the city.
