An electric vehicle charging time depends on several factors, including the type of charger being used, the battery capacity of the car, and the current state of charge of the battery.

To calculate the amount of time it will take to charge your electric car, you can use the following formula:

Charging time = (Battery Capacity ÷ Charging rate) × Charging efficiency

Where:

  • Battery capacity is the total capacity of the car’s battery in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
  • Charging rate is the rate at which the charger can deliver energy to the battery, measured in kilowatts (kW).
  • Charging efficiency is the efficiency of the charging process, typically between 80% and 90%.

For example, let’s say you have a car with a battery capacity of 60 kWh, and you’re using a 7 kW charger with an efficiency of 85%. The calculation would be:

Charging time = (60 ÷ 7) × 0.85 Charging time = 7.71 hours

Keep in mind that these calculations are based on ideal conditions, and the actual EV Charging time may vary depending on factors such as temperature, battery degradation, and the state of charge of the battery when you start charging. Time to Charge a Tesla Model 3

The standard trim of the Tesla Model 3 has a battery capacity of 50 kWh. The charging time will depend on the charging rate and the efficiency of the charging process. Here are some estimated charging times for the Tesla Model 3 Standard Trim using different charging options:

  1. Tesla Supercharger (120 kW): The Tesla Supercharger is the fastest charging option available for the Model 3. It can charge the battery from 0% to 80% in about 30-40 minutes, and to 100% in approximately 1 hour.
  2. Level 2 charger (7.7 kW): If you are using a Level 2 charger with a power output of 7.7 kW, the charging time to go from 0% to 100% would be approximately 6.5-8.5 hours, assuming an efficiency of 85%.
  3. Standard household outlet (120V, 15A): If you are using a standard household outlet with a power output of 1.44 kW, the charging time to go from 0% to 100% would be around 34-50 hours, assuming an efficiency of 85%.

Time to Charge a Hyundai Kona Electric

  1. The Hyundai Kona Electric has two battery options – a 39.2 kWh and a 64 kWh battery.
  • Using a DC fast charger (50 kW): The Kona Electric can be charged from 0% to 80% in approximately 1 hour, and to 100% in around 1.5-2 hours for the 64 kWh battery option.
  • With a Level 2 charger (7.2 kW): The charging time to go from 0% to 100% would be around 6-8 hours for the 39.2 kWh battery option and around 9-11 hours for the 64 kWh battery option, assuming an efficiency of 85%.
  • Plugging in with a trickle charger in a standard household outlet (120V, 15A): The charging time to go from 0% to 100% would be approximately 24-28 hours for the 39.2 kWh battery option and around 39-46 hours for the 64 kWh battery option, assuming an efficiency of 85%.
